Policy Information Brief 3: Climate adapted northern development

NCCARFs evidence-based Policy Information Briefs address key challenges to effective adaptation to Australias variable and changing climate. They provide high-level policy advice designed for use by policy-makers at Commonwealth and State level. This Brief addresses the option of realising northern development through climate adaptation. It was developed through consultation workshops in Cairns and Darwin together with extensive exchange with relevant stakeholders and experts. After establishing the climate context and describing the North’s current and future stresses and impacts, this Brief outlines a number of strategies to foster climate adaptation. These strategies are also thought to promote innovation and development, and the reduction of greenhouse gases. They have been organised under the following topics: human health and social well-being, economic development, and environmental adaptation.
