Living with Climate Change: Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Factsheets for Australia: Primary Industries

Author: NCCARF
Year: 2012

This factsheet provides a short summary of the potential climate change impacts on Australia’s primary industries sector. Climate is one of the fundamental factors that determine where different types of primary production can be successfully pursued. Climate change impacts will include reduced productivity and profitability in some areas, although others may experience increases. Atmospheric CO2 has the potential to increase growth where water or nutrients aren’t limiting. Other impacts include bushfires, increases in pest and weed species and increased disease threats. Climate change impacts are likely to be worsened by global market factors. There is also likely to be an intersection of mitigation policies and farming futures. The factsheet also describes research priorities and the work of the then Primary Industries Adaptation Research Network.
